Whenever we install new windows or operating systems to our computer, we have to set new settings as the fresh system chooses some things by default. In the same way, it is seeing that whenever we install or update our windows, it automatically selects Microsoft’s edge as its default browser. It is because Microsoft edge which is an upgraded version of Internet Explorer is considered one of the safest browsers to browse. But since it is slow in its process many users want to shift to other browsing options such as Chrome offered by Google or Mozilla Firefox. In this article, we will learn how to change the default browser in Windows 11.

Microsoft has made the settings a bit more difficult to change the browser. Now, you have to specify the type of file and each link that should be opened by the browser by default. Let’s see the steps given below to change the browser.
Step 1. Firstly, open the settings.
Step 2. Click on Apps.
Step 3. Now, a list will appear on the right side of the window. Click on ‘Default Apps’.
Step 4. Now, many options for browsing will come. Select the browser you want to set as default. For example, choose ‘Google Chrome’.
Step 5. Now, click on ‘.htm’ option.
Step 6. Among the options select ‘Switch Anyway’.
Step 7. Select Google Chrome again.
Step 8. Click on the ‘OK’ button.
Step 9. Now, you have to repeat steps 5,6,7, and 8 for the below extensions:

- .webp
- .xht.html
- .shtml

- .webp
- .xht
- FTP
- HTML
- HTTPS
- FTP
- HTML
- HTTPS
Step 10. After completing these steps your preferred browser will be set as the default browser by the system.
Maybe it looks appears difficult at the moment to change the browser but Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the option for the future. The process can be changed in the upcoming future. Let’s have a look at an example. If we click on the “Make Default” option in Microsoft edge by going through ‘edge://settings/defaultbrowser. This will directly change the default browser to Microsoft Edge without any additional change.
